Songs of the Past Controls for Letten
Classic Witcher 3 inputs plus a Remastered camera and a silver chain on a quick-use slot. Official remap tables are not out yet.
What is confirmed, and what is not
Songs of the Past uses The Witcher 3’s control grammar. You still lock a target, light-attack, heavy-attack, dodge, roll, parry, throw a Sign, drink a potion, and call Roach. The expansion does not ask you to learn a new action-RPG. It asks you to make room for one extra limb: a silver chain on Geralt’s arm that behaves like a Sign, bomb, or crossbow in the quick-use row. Remastered, the free upgrade dated 29 September 2026, also changes how the camera follows a dodge and how targeting can shift during a swing.
CD Projekt Red has not published a full official remap table for Songs of the Past. This page is therefore a preparation guide, not a screenshot of every PC binding. When the 2027 chapter ships, check the in-game Options menu on your platform and treat that screen as canon. Until then, set up Remastered so the chain’s aimed throw will land on a button your thumb already trusts.
For how the chain, Signs, and investigation actually play, use the How to Play Guide. For hardware and storefronts, use system requirements and platforms. For the combat and UI pass underneath Letten, use the Remastered notes.
PC expectations: keyboard, mouse, and a spare key
Keyboard and mouse players should assume the 2015 and next-gen layouts still apply:
- WASD to move, Space to jump or dismount depending on context, Left Shift to sprint, Left Ctrl to crouch or toggle walk if you rebound it.
- Left mouse light attack, right mouse heavy attack or guard, middle mouse or a rebound key for Witcher Senses.
- Q, E, R, and the number row for Signs and consumables, F for interact, Tab or the inventory key for character panels, M for map, V or your call-mount bind for Roach.
- The crossbow has always lived on a dedicated quick-use control with an optional aim overlay that slows time.
The chain reuses that last idea. Preview talks compared it to the crossbow slot and said you cannot have both equipped at once. On PC that probably means one key for a tap throw and the same key held, or a mouse button held, for the weak-point aim. Because remap lists are unpublished, do this now:
- Put the current crossbow bind on a key you can hit in a panic and hold in a boss.
- Do not hide it under a modifier that fights with Igni.
- If you use a mouse with extra buttons, give the aimed overlay a side button. Swarmions will not wait for you to find 3 on the number row.
- Keep a Sign on a finger that never moves. The chain is extra; Quen is still the save button.
Accessibility changes in Remastered include UI and tutorial modernization. If you play with toggle dodge, auto-sign, or enlarged subtitles, turn those on in Remastered first so Letten inherits them. DirectX 12 is the PC path; if a launch overlay injects an old control profile, delete it before you blame the chain.
PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S
Controller players should expect DualSense and Xbox layouts that still look like The Witcher 3:
- Face buttons for interact, jump, dodge or roll, and the contextual horse or witcher actions you already know.
- Triggers for attacks, bumpers for Signs, bombs, or the item radial depending on your scheme.
- Right stick camera, click for Witcher Senses, d-pad for quick items.
- A hold-to-aim overlay for ranged tools, historically the crossbow.
The Remastered adaptive camera is the real console change. Dodging under an attack now tries to keep the enemy centered instead of showing you Geralt’s back and a health bar. That will feel faster even if your binds never move. Practice in a Toussaint fight after 29 September 2026. If the new follow makes you sick, look for camera shake, motion blur, and sensitivity sliders in Remastered rather than waiting for a Letten-specific patch.
On PlayStation 5, adaptive triggers may or may not get a unique chain tension; CD Projekt Red has not published that detail. Do not buy hardware for a rumble pattern that is not documented. On Xbox Series X|S, the same caution applies to impulse triggers. Both consoles run the current-gen build only. PlayStation 4 and Xbox One are not supported.
Hold a bumper or trigger for the chain the way you currently hold for a bomb radial, then confirm in 2027. If the game copies the crossbow, the aimed chain will be a hold plus right stick to pick a weak point while time slows. That overlay is how you crack the Slumbering Knight’s guard. A panicked tap is how you yank one Swarmion out of a group. Two uses, one slot. Bind it where your crossbow already lives.
Nintendo Switch 2
Nintendo Switch 2 is a supported platform for Remastered and for Songs of the Past. The original Switch is not. If you own the old cartridge or eShop copy, claim the Switch 2 upgrade rather than expecting the 2019 cloud version to grow a chain. Touchscreen features were mentioned for Remastered in platform roundups; they are not a substitute for a proper dodge bind. Play in handheld or docked with a controller you can roll on. Letten’s Garden of Thorns is not a tap-to-move game.
Gyro aiming for the chain has not been confirmed. If Remastered exposes gyro for the crossbow, test it. If it does not, do not assume Fool’s Theory added a hidden motion control. Use the platforms page for the claim-upgrade path and the system requirements page only as a PC cousin; Switch 2 specs are a console SKU, not a GPU list.
Investigation binds and NPC hours
Witcher Senses remain the investigation tool. Put them on a control you can hold while walking an estate corridor. Letten’s NPC routines are denser; you will scan tables, lutes, and festival stalls the way you scanned the Baron’s rooms. Interact is still interact. There is no separate “accuse” button. Knowledge carries between conversations as quest state, which is a writing system, not a new key.
Meditation, looting, and the radial for oils still exist. Remastered listed immersive meditation, a looting rework, and UI cleanup. If loot is on a hold instead of a tap in the new build, learn that in White Orchard or Toussaint, not in the Garden of Thorns. Call Roach on a face button you will not confuse with dodge. Festival crowds are poor places to dismount by accident.
Photo mode, if present in your Remastered build, is not a combat pause you should rely on. Accessibility features are the legitimate pause: submenu, recast, subtitle size. Turn them on before 2027.
A setup checklist you can do now
- Install Remastered on 29 September 2026 and open Options the same day.
- Rebind the crossbow or ranged slot onto a control you can tap and hold.
- Lower or raise camera sensitivity until a Toussaint dodge keeps the enemy on screen.
- Enable the accessibility toggles you actually use.
- Save a Toussaint file, then quit to the main menu and confirm the expansion slot will be obvious when Songs of the Past arrives in 2027.
- When the chapter ships, open Options again. If an official chain remap list appears in a patch note, that list wins over this article.
Until CD Projekt Red prints the table, the honest control guide is habits, not glyphs. Keep swords on attack, Signs on bumpers or Q-E-R, Senses on a hold, and one prized key for the silver chain. That is enough to walk into Belleteyn without fighting the menu instead of the knight.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers about Songs of the Past, Letten, and the Remastered upgrade.
Are official Songs of the Past control lists published?
Not yet. Use The Witcher 3 and Remastered layouts as the baseline, put the chain on your current ranged or quick-use slot, and recheck Options when the 2027 chapter ships. Combat rules are in the How to Play Guide.
Does the chain need a new button?
It occupies a quick-use slot like a Sign, bomb, or crossbow. Preview talks compared it to the crossbow and said you cannot equip both at once. You will likely reuse a ranged bind, not add a second analog stick.
What does Remastered change about the camera?
Dodges try to keep the target framed, and you can retarget during an attack animation. Practice after the 29 September 2026 upgrade. Details live in the Remastered notes.
Will last-gen controllers on PS4 or Xbox One work?
The expansion is not coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, or original Switch. Play on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, or PC. See the platforms tool.
Should I change PC settings before Letten?
Yes. Remastered is DirectX 12. Confirm your GPU against the system requirements tool, then bind the ranged slot to a key you can hold for the chain's weak-point aim.
