Songs of the Past System Requirements

What these numbers apply to

On 27 May 2026, the same day Songs of the Past was announced, CD Projekt Red published new minimum PC requirements for The Witcher 3. They take effect with the next major update of the client — the Remastered upgrade arriving 29 September 2026 — and they are the floor Songs of the Past will sit on in 2027. This is not a second spec sheet for a standalone Letten.exe. If you cannot run Remastered, you cannot run the expansion.

Read the Remastered notes for what the new build actually changes. Use the platforms guide if your question is “which box,” not “which GPU.” Use getting started when the hardware is fine and the save is not.

Official minimums (announcement list)

CDPR’s published minimums:

• OS: 64-bit Windows 11
• CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 2600 or Intel Core i5-8400
• GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 or AMD Radeon RX 5500 XT 8 GB
• VRAM: 6 GB
• RAM: 12 GB
• Storage: 70 GB SSD
• API: DirectX 12 only

Later Remastered tables also listed Intel Arc A580 as a minimum-class GPU. Treat that as an addition to the announcement pair, not a replacement. The GTX 1660 line is quoted with 6 GB of VRAM; the RX 5500 XT example is the 8 GB card. Do not assume a 4 GB 1660 Ti laptop SKU is the same sentence.

CDPR’s own explanation was blunt. Windows 11 is the minimum OS for both The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077 after Microsoft ended Windows 10 support on 14 October 2025. Without security updates, platform support, and GPU drivers, the studio will no longer test on Windows 10. HDDs are dropped because SSDs load faster and stream assets more smoothly. DirectX 12 is exclusive going forward so the renderer can keep taking modern-hardware patches. Only processors supported on Windows 11, and only GPUs with ongoing active driver support for gaming on Windows 11, stay in the support matrix.

That last clause matters more than the brand names. A card that meets the 1660-class number on paper but has no current Windows 11 Game Ready / Adrenalin / Arc driver is not a supported configuration.

Recommended specs published with Remastered

After the gamescom Remastered reveal, a recommended column circulated alongside the minimums:

• CPU: Intel Core i7-8700K or AMD Ryzen 5 3600X
• GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 Super, AMD Radeon RX 6600 XT, or Intel Arc B580
• RAM: 16 GB
• Storage: 70 GB SSD

Use recommended if you care about path tracing, ray-traced hair, DLSS 4.5 / FSR 4 / XeSS 2.0 quality modes, or a crowded Novigrad at high settings. Minimums get you into the updated client. They are not a promise of ultra path-traced Letten at 60. CDPR has not published a separate “Songs of the Past ultra” sheet; when one appears, it will replace this paragraph.

Consoles and handhelds

There is no public CPU/GPU table for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, or Nintendo Switch 2 because those SKUs are locked hardware. What is public: Songs of the Past is current-gen only. PlayStation 5 (including Pro enhancement support on Remastered), Xbox Series X and Series S, and a native Switch 2 version. Xbox Play Anywhere is listed for Remastered. DualSense features that already exist in the current PS5 client should carry forward; the controls guide is the place for camera and chain bindings once those are documented, not for TDP numbers.

PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and the original Nintendo Switch are not on the Songs of the Past platform list. Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine were granted to existing owners, including last-gen libraries, but that generosity does not extend to Letten. A last-gen disc plus a free DLC download is not a Remastered license on PS5.

The older-version note, said carefully

At announcement time CDPR said players who cannot meet the new minimums can revert to an earlier version of The Witcher 3. Steam betas and GOG’s Classic channel were the practical examples the community discussed. That fallback is for the existing adventure: White Orchard through Toussaint on the last tested old branch. It is not a supported way to load Songs of the Past. Remastered remains the path for the 2027 expansion. If you stay on the older client, you keep Velen; you do not get the Garden of Thorns.

70 GB is the stated SSD footprint for the updated build, not a promise that Letten will add zero bytes in 2027. Leave headroom. Page files on the same SSD help when you sit at 12 GB of RAM; they are not a substitute for the 16 GB recommended column if you also run a browser, Discord, and a recording overlay.

Practical checks before 29 September 2026

Confirm the OS is Windows 11 64-bit, not a Windows 10 install with a compatibility shim. Confirm the game drive is an SSD. Update GPU drivers from the vendor, not a third-party “booster.” If you are on a laptop, check whether the 1660-class chip is a 6 GB part and whether the machine actually runs on the NVIDIA/AMD GPU rather than an iGPU when plugged in. Then boot the current Complete Edition once, so you know the store account, shader cache, and save folder are healthy before the Remastered swap.

Controller users should skim controls after Remastered lands, because the adaptive camera and chain slot will steal muscle memory even if the face buttons look familiar. When the hardware side is settled, go back to getting started and freeze a Blood and Wine save you are willing to carry into 2027.
