Songs of the Past Letten Bestiary Hub
A gamescom preview ranking, not a live-game tier list
This is a preview ranking of the monsters CD Projekt Red and Fool’s Theory showed for Songs of the Past at gamescom 2026. It is not a live-game tier list. The expansion is a 2027 paid chapter. Oils, resistances, and spawn tables can still change. If a YouTube thumbnail already calls something S-tier, that person is guessing from a hands-off demo. This hub exists so the guess is labeled as a guess, then pointed at the longer new monsters write-up.
Three threats have names in previews. Swarmions travel in packs, wrapped in hornet clouds that act like moving armor. The Slumbering Knight is a rooted skeleton — Count Humbert’s corpse in the Garden footage — that grows a bark shield and throws thorned reach until the silver chain breaks the guard. Thorn Flowers are an archespore variant: they fight from underground and spit poison, which is why Igni and a patient silver swing still matter. Other beasts were mentioned and then left off the stage. Do not pad this list with nekker reskins until the journal ships.
The silver chain is the reason the ranking has a new axis. In The Witcher 3 you already sort monsters by sword color, Sign, and oil. Letten adds a pull. The chain occupies a quick-use slot like a Sign or a bomb. Footage used it to yank a Swarmion out of its insects and to open the Knight when swords bounced. That does not make every Letten fight a chain fight. It makes the chain the answer to specific defenses. Practical timing belongs in how to play. This hub only cares how dangerous a creature is once that tool exists.
Preview tiers, based only on what the demo asked Geralt to do:
- High threat: Slumbering Knight. Boss presentation, changing anatomy, guard that wastes steel until the chain lands. Treat as a set-piece, not a roadside ghoul.
- Mid threat: Swarmions. Dangerous in groups, trivial if you isolate one, ugly if you panic-Igni the cloud and eat stings while another body climbs you.
- Specialist threat: Thorn Flowers. Less about raw health, more about underground angles and poison shots that punish players who stand still in the Garden.
Those three ranks will move. A Blood and Wine-scale region will not ship with only a pack, a knight, and a plant. Use the expansion comparison if you want to remember how Hearts of Stone hid Gaunter’s rules and how Toussaint hid vampire politics behind vineyards. Letten is hiding a family curse behind a pretty valley. The monsters are the curse standing up.
Come back after launch and this page should look embarrassing. That is the point of dating a bestiary to a trade-floor demo. Until 2027, scout the three named threats, learn the chain, and do not pretend we have seen the journal’s last page.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers about Songs of the Past, Letten, and the Remastered upgrade.
Is this a final Songs of the Past tier list?
No. It is a preview ranking from gamescom 2026 footage. Spawn rates, oils, and bosses can still change before the 2027 launch.
Which new monsters have been named?
Swarmions, the Slumbering Knight, and Thorn Flowers. The new monsters guide is the full preview bestiary for those three.
Does the silver chain change monster matchups?
Yes, for creatures with a guard or a swarm shell. It fills a quick-use slot like a Sign or bomb. Timing notes live in how to play.
How does Letten's bestiary compare to older expansions?
Hearts of Stone was story-dense with a smaller map. Blood and Wine filled Toussaint with vampires and tournaments. Songs of the Past is aiming at Blood and Wine scale with a Letten curse. Read the expansion comparison.
