New Monsters Guide

Songs of the Past will not ship a Toussaint bestiary with new names glued on. The gamescom 2026 demo for this upcoming 2027 paid expansion showed three Letten threats with distinct jobs: a pack hunter, a rooted knight, and a plant that refuses to stand where your silver wants it. CD Projekt Red and Fool’s Theory still have a Blood and Wine-scale region to fill, so this guide is a field notebook, not a complete journal. Use it to plan oils and the silver chain. Do not use it to claim you have seen every contract.

Swarmions are the pack. Previews describe reanimated cadavers wrapped in hornet or wasp clouds. The insects are armor. Swords that go in blind spend time in the cloud instead of in the neck. The silver chain is the stated counter: throw, hook a weak point, and pull one body out of the swarm so the rest of the pack is no longer sharing a shield. Igni is the obvious Sign if you want the cloud gone, but fire in a group fight is also how you lose track of the second cadaver. Necrophage oil is the reasonable pre-battle guess because the bodies read as ghouls, not elementals. That guess can still be wrong in 2027. The demo lesson that will not age as fast is isolation. If you let Swarmions stay a choir, the chain has nothing clean to grab.

The Slumbering Knight is the set-piece. In the Garden of Thorns footage an armored corpse stands when Lilla touches it. Roots and bark turn a dead noble into a shield arm and a set of thorned tendrils. Around the neck, at least in one preview, hangs a chain with a Lettenhove horse pendant — which is how the fight stops being “undead knight number twelve” and starts being Count Humbert’s remains. Developers used the silver chain to break that bark guard. Quen covers the tendril hits you fail to parry. Relict or cursed-oil questions are still open; the corpse is a man, a tree, and a legend at once. Geralt wins the demo version by opening the guard, then taking the arm, then putting the ancestor back down. That is a boss pattern, not a roadside fight you ignore on the Letten map.

Thorn Flowers are the archespore problem with extra spite. They stay underground, then surface to fire large poisonous shots. Older archespores already punished players who stood in sap and forgot Igni. Letten’s variant adds a vertical cheat: you cannot always see the plant when the shot is charging. Northern Wind or a similar freeze is the classic Witcher answer to something that wants to reset into dirt. Insectoid or ogroid oil does not apply. Cursed oil or a plant-specific mixture is the honest unknown. Yrden may help if the 2027 build still lets traps catch a burrow, but the demo did not pause to explain the journal entry. Until it does, treat Thorn Flowers as artillery, not as a target you charge.

How the kit might apply, in demo language rather than wiki invention:

  • Chain first when a defense is not a health bar — Swarmion clouds, Knight bark.
  • Igni for flora and for insects you have already separated.
  • Quen when the Knight’s tendrils outrange a dodge.
  • Oils last, because the journal has not confirmed categories.

Kotaku’s closed-door demo also showed a giant burrowing centipede that dove under Geralt’s steel. That is a fourth preview threat, not a named journal entry yet. Treat it as a reminder that the chain cannot hook what is underground — same lesson as Thorn Flowers.

If you need button-level timing, use how to play and the silver chain guide. The Garden fight sits in the Bed of Thorns quest. If you need to remember why Letten’s monsters feel like a family curse instead of a vampire duchy, use the expansion comparison. The Garden is still a preview arena. The three names above are the only ones this page will rank until CD Projekt Red shows the next corpse.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers about Songs of the Past, Letten, and the Remastered upgrade.

What are Swarmions?

Pack cadavers wrapped in hornet clouds. The silver chain is the preview counter: pull one body out of the swarm instead of swinging blind. More matchup notes sit in how to play.

Who is the Slumbering Knight?

A rooted skeleton shown in the Garden of Thorns, tied to ancestor Count Humbert. The chain breaks its bark guard. Geralt fights it as a set-piece, not a random encounter.

How do Thorn Flowers attack?

They are an archespore variant that fights from underground and fires poison shots. Igni and patience matter more than charging the dirt.

Are these all the new monsters?

No. These are the three named in gamescom previews. A Blood and Wine-scale Letten map will hold more. Compare ambitions on the expansion comparison page.

Where do these fights take place?

The Garden of Thorns footage is the main showcase. Use the Letten map for how that cursed forest sits inside the wider valley.
